Landmine Warnings at Panos

On November 6, 2007, the PROM-1 landmine was removed from the locality of Panos in Southern Velebit (former army facility). Additional inspection of the area carried out by the Croatian Mine Action Center has revealed that more landmines in and around the facility do exist. Since this locality has recently become very popular among picnickers, mountain climbers, and hunters, the Management has set up conspicuous warning signs that the area is a landmine zone, suggesting that it not be visited until further notice!

Closing of mountain trail Medvjeđi Kuk

Pursuant to the resolution passed at the meeting between the Mountain Trail Committee and the Velebit Nature Park management, held in Gospić on March 7, 2008, the Medvjeđi Kuk safety cable and the signs leading to the trail have been removed. The trail has been closed due to the difficult climb toward Medvjeđi kuk and the problematic set up of the safety cable.
